IT4Kids collaborates with 10 professional football clubs to create sports opportunities

Professional Football Clubs (BVOs) are joining forces with the IT4Kids foundation to make sports accessible for financially and physically vulnerable children and youth in the Netherlands. Through an innovative fundraising model—collecting decommissioned IT hardware via the clubs’ business networks—local sports projects are made possible. The proceeds from the donated hardware go back to the clubs’ social foundations, creating impact in their cities and regions.
Sports as a Key to Development
Sports are invaluable for children, offering much more than just physical activity. They contribute to health and #skills4life, such as self-confidence, social skills, and enjoyment. Yet for many children in the Netherlands, participating in sports is not a given.
115,000 children grow up in poverty.
70% of children with a physical disability often feel lonely.
For these groups, sports make a real difference. Together with IT4Kids, the clubs are committed to ensuring that no child is left on the sidelines.
Clubs Making a Difference Nationwide
Participating clubs include: Ajax, PSV, FC Utrecht, N.E.C. Nijmegen, FC Groningen, RKC Waalwijk, Roda JC, VVV-Venlo, FC Eindhoven, and FC Dordrecht.
IT4Kids works with five clubs on both hardware and project levels, supporting social initiatives of the Ajax Foundation, FC Utrecht, PSV Foundation, GezondRijk Nijmegen, and FC Groningen financially. Additionally, partnerships exist on hardware-only projects with the social branches of RKC Waalwijk, Roda JC, VVV-Venlo, FC Eindhoven, and FC Dordrecht.
This creates a broad network in which clubs contribute in various ways, but always with the same goal: giving as many children and youth as possible the opportunity to grow through sports.
“Thanks to this partnership, we can reach more young people and help them grow into role models in their communities through sports.” – Wendy Smits, CSR Manager, RKC Waalwijk Foundation
IT4Kids is also in discussions with several other BVOs, which will further expand the number of collaborations in the near future.
How Decommissioned Hardware Creates Social Impact
For 12 years, IT4Kids has been committed to a healthier Netherlands by making sports accessible for financially and physically vulnerable children. In collaboration with the clubs, IT4Kids mobilizes business networks to donate decommissioned hardware, such as laptops, smartphones, tablets, desktops, and servers. These devices are securely wiped, sustainably processed, and 70% of their residual value goes to the clubs’ social foundations.
“This collaboration is unique: we combine social impact, sustainability, and sports. Clubs activate their networks and companies make a real difference. Simply by donating something they would otherwise discard, they give vulnerable children a structural opportunity to participate in sports,” says IT4Kids.
The shared goal? To provide as many children as possible with a healthier future through sports—physically, socially, and emotionally—while building genuine #skills4life through collaborations with all BVOs in the Netherlands.
