't Harde Zadel rides for IT4Kids

From Bazel to Delft

‘t Harde Zadel, the cycling association of the Delftsch Studenten Corps, is cycling for IT4Kids! Approximately 40 cyclists will ride back to Delft from Basel. They will embark on this journey from August 10th to 17th, all with the aim of raising money for sports opportunities for children. They have chosen to ride for our new partner: the Maxima Centrum. Through this page, we will keep you updated on all developments, and if you want to support the students by making a donation, you can do so via this page.

't Harde Zadel

‘T harde zadel comprising 6 enthusiastic students with a passion for cycling, ‘t Harde Zadel annually dedicates itself to a charitable cause. This year, they have chosen IT4Kids and the Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology.

“We view sports as the foundation for both physical and mental well-being, but for children with cancer, this is often not possible. Each year, approximately 600 children in the Netherlands are diagnosed with cancer. ‘t Harde Zadel is committed to supporting these children through sports and exercise. By organizing cycling events, we aim to raise as much money as possible for the Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology.

In August, the second edition of the Harde Zadel cycling journey will take place. Following a successful first edition where Diederik Gommers received over €15,000 on behalf of the Erasmus Foundation, this year, 40 DSC members will cycle from Basel to Delft to raise awareness for the work of IT4Kids and the Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology.

The Charity: Princess Máxima Center

For most children, being active is natural. They cycle to school, play ball with friends, and engage in various sports activities. However, when a child has cancer, these activities become less straightforward.

The illness, treatment, side effects, and hospital visits make it more challenging for children to stay active and participate in sports. Yet, it is essential for them to remain physically active, albeit sometimes requiring adaptation and creativity. If necessary, the (pediatric) physiotherapist can assist with this.

The Princess Máxima Center encourages children to get moving and stay active. Throughout the building, you’ll find things that invite movement, such as bicycles, go-karts, table football, table tennis, and air hockey. The sports hall offers activities for various age groups every weekday. For children who cannot or are not allowed to leave their rooms, there is a sports package that allows them to move in their room. Additionally, special events and sports activities are regularly organized to motivate both children and parents to engage in and maintain physical activity.

Would you like to support the cyclists?

To achieve our goal, we are looking for individuals who are interested in collaborating with ‘t Harde Zadel to contribute to a healthy future for every child! Of course, donating a monetary amount directly is also an option!

About IT4Kids

IT4Kids is a CBF-recognized charity that collects decommissioned hardware from companies. The value of the hardware is donated to projects of charities that provide children facing financial or physical challenges with structural opportunities in sports. IT4Kids collaborates with various charity partners, including the Princess Máxima Center, Dirk Kuyt Foundation, Esther Vergeet Foundation, and FC Utrecht.

It is an innovative fundraising approach that contributes to two critical societal issues: sports and physical activity, and circular IT for a better environment. By 2030, IT4Kids aims to ensure that all children in the Netherlands have the opportunity to participate in sports, because everyone should be able to join in. If every company donates its hardware to IT4Kids, this goal should be achievable!
